SAVE TIME

.) Make a list. A list not only helps you save on compulsive spending, it helps you shop more focused and efficiently while you are in the store. Segregate the items on your list by isle, section or department. This way you don’t double back between areas and stay on a direct path to checkout.
.) Shop during off-times. Early morning or late nights are the quietest times for grocery stores. Avoid evening rush hour or days just before a holiday. This will reduce the chance that you have to wait in line at the deli, pharmacy, meat counter, checkout, etc.
.) Shop without the Toddlers. Bringing the toddlers with you to the grocery will only slow you down as they whine about needing everything they see. Instead, if it’s possible, leave them with a responsible babysitter or family member at home or do your shopping while they are in daycare. If you are shopping with older children try splitting up the items on your list and then divide and concur your way through the store - reuniting at checkout or somewhere in the middle. This can give the kids a sense of purpose, responsibility and accomplishment with the task at hand.
.) Park near the cart returns. It may not be a lot but every second counts in the get-away.
.) Call ahead or drop prescriptions at the pharmacy before you start shopping. This way you can pick up your filled RX on your way out.
.) Shop online and get home delivery. Most grocery store chains offer on-line grocery shopping. This may not save you money - but it can certainly save you time. You just make the order and it will come delivered to your door.
.) Use a debit or credit card to pay. Digging out a check book, writing and recording it and then waiting for the cashier to look at and record your driver’s license number is much slower process than swiping a card punching a few pad keys.
