Wine 101
What is wine?
Wine, put simply, is fermented fruit juice. Wine is generally made from grapes, but can also be made from apples, pears, cherries, blackberries, or any other fruit which contains sugar. The grapes are pressed, the juice gets put into tanks with yeast, and as the yeast eats the sugar, alcohol is the result. Bravo! We have wine. If it WERE only that simple, but then we wouldn’t have the amazing world of wine that we have to explore. All 50 US states have at least one commercial winery and wine comes from places around the world that no one would ever expect. In the region of Champagne alone, there are 31,000,000 bottles produced. The world of wine can be overwhelming and confusing, but here you will find the information you need to learn more about what various wine terms mean, what you like, what to try next, and how to order the right bottle!
